Bitwarden Setup Guide

Create an Account and Sync Across Firefox, Google Chrome, Android, and iOS


Overview

This guide walks through:

  1. Creating a Bitwarden account

  8. Understanding how syncing works between devices

Bitwarden securely encrypts your vault and syncs it across all devices where you are logged in.


1. Create a Bitwarden Account

  1. Go to: https://bitwarden.com/
  2. Click Get Started Free
  3. Fill in:
  4. Email address
  5. Master Password
  6. Master Password Hint (optional but recommended)
  7. Agree to the terms and submit.

Important: - Your Master Password cannot be recovered by Bitwarden. - Store it somewhere secure. - Use a long, unique passphrase.

Verify Your Email

  1. Check your inbox.
  2. Click the verification link from Bitwarden.

2. Install Bitwarden on Firefox (Desktop)

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Visit: https://addons.mozilla.org/
  3. Search for Bitwarden Password Manager.
  4. Click Add to Firefox.
  5. Confirm permissions.

Pin the Extension

  1. Click the Extensions icon in the toolbar.
  2. Find Bitwarden.
  3. Click the pin icon to keep it visible.

Log In

  1. Click the Bitwarden icon.
  2. Enter your email and Master Password.
  3. Unlock your vault.

Bitwarden will now: - Offer to save new logins - Autofill saved credentials - Sync automatically with your account


3. Install Bitwarden on Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Go to: https://chrome.google.com/webstore
  3. Search for Bitwarden Password Manager.
  4. Click Add to Chrome.
  5. Confirm by selecting Add Extension.

Pin the Extension

  1. Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar.
  2. Find Bitwarden.
  3. Click the pin icon.

Log In

  1. Click the Bitwarden icon.
  2. Click "login"
  3. Enter your email and Master Password.
  4. Unlock your vault.

Chrome will now save and autofill passwords using Bitwarden.


4. Install Bitwarden on Android

Install the App

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. Search for Bitwarden Password Manager.
  3. Install the app.

Log In

  1. Open Bitwarden.
  2. Enter your email and Master Password.
  3. Unlock your vault.

Enable Autofill on Android

  1. Open the Bitwarden app.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select Autofill.
  4. Tap Autofill Service.
  5. When redirected to Android settings:
  6. Select Bitwarden as your default autofill provider.
  7. Confirm the warning prompt.

Bitwarden will now offer login suggestions in: - Chrome - Other browsers - Mobile apps


5. Install Bitwarden on iOS (iPhone / iPad)

Install the App

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Search for Bitwarden Password Manager.
  3. Install the app.

Log In

  1. Open Bitwarden.
  2. Enter your email and Master Password.
  3. Unlock your vault.

Enable AutoFill on iOS

  1. Open Settings on your device.
  2. Go to Passwords.
  3. Tap AutoFill Passwords.
  4. Turn AutoFill on.
  5. Select Bitwarden as the password provider.

Bitwarden will now autofill credentials in: - Safari - Chrome for iOS - Apps that support AutoFill


6. How Sync Works

Bitwarden syncs automatically across devices when:

  • You are logged into the same account.
  • Your device has an internet connection.

When you: - Add a login - Edit a password - Delete an item

The changes sync to all other logged-in devices.

Manual Sync (Optional)

On mobile: 1. Open the Bitwarden app. 2. Go to Settings. 3. Tap Sync. 4. Select Sync Vault Now.


7. Recommended Best Practices

Use a Strong Master Password

  • Long passphrase (14+ characters recommended)
  • Unique and never reused elsewhere

Use the Built-In Password Generator

In the browser extension or mobile app: - Open Generator - Create strong, random passwords for new accounts


You Are Now Fully Synced

After installing Bitwarden on: - Firefox - Google Chrome - Android - iOS

And logging into the same account on each device, your encrypted vault will remain synchronized across all platforms.
